Ben, yep, Urban Smiler was born for social media - great brand and a perfect match for the online medium. If you're not already, try following her - it's a refreshing little addition to your day.

@ Derek, Thanks for helping-out Chris. I might be a brand expert, but I'm bereft of technical talent.

@ Chris, Good point you make Chris. Who we choose to follow is also a reflection on your brand. A professional brand or individual who is following a playboy bunny would be an example of confusing you professional and personal life on-line.

@ Chris. Check to see if it's listed in your 'connections' tab under settings. Have you tried changing your password?

Excellent tips. The biggest mistake I made on Twitter is following so many people without really knowing how to use it. I found that people have gotten bored and left. Does anyone know how to remove the bot on my twitter updates that say get 400 + followers per day. People think I am spamming but I am not the one posting this update.

@ Malcolm, Glad it was useful to you. It's always easy to simplify the process in theory. In practice you might still come across some brand building road blocks. Feel free to email me if you have any questions as you build your brand in the social media.

@ Liz, That strategy word can be so confronting, especially to small/medium sized businesses without sophisticated marketing knowledge. Often the lack of a 'strategy' stops organisations from consciously considering their approach to brand. As a starting point to just even sit down and think about the basics of professional presentation can make such a difference. We all have a brand, the main difference is between those brands that consioscly consider their actions, and those that don't.

@ Ramon, Couldn't agree more. The flip side is that in an medium with so many people presenting themselves poorly, the brands that do manage their image well will really stand-out.

Hi Dave,

I agree. Companies need a strategy for their Social Media use and too many people just dive in without thinking it through. You can have fun with social media, but you do have to keep it professional since everything you say and do is a direct reflection on your brand.
