Inspirational Brand Experience Design from Europe
This truly amazing exhibit design at Interieur 2010, the 22nd International Design Biennale that took place in Belgium last year really caught our fancy. The exhibition space was designed for Modular Lighting Instrument, a Belgium-based lighting business with showrooms across Europe. The exhibition space featured custom-designed lighting engineering that created ‘The Modular Pinball’, a life-sized pinball machine, showing-off the skills and talents of Modular Lighting Instruments and introducing their latest LED ceiling lights, ‘Spock’ and ‘O’Leaf’, for the first time to the general public in a most memorable fashion. The playing field of the pinball game was divided into sections that matched the Modular Lighting catalogue: Orientation, Accent, General and Dynamic making it easy for the ‘ game’s players’ – potential specifiers and buyers of the new lights – to pay attention to the lights, and not just the fun surroundings. This energy-efficient exhibit used 70 % less energy than the company’s 2008 exhibit at the same event.
The new Spock and O’Leaf lighting products were designed by Bram Couvreur and Bjorn De Vos of Couvreur & Devos.

Thanks for the post David. It looks great and is such a creative way to show off their products.
What a fantastic brand experience and communication piece David, fair to say that these guys are well and truly on the (multi) ball when it comes to getting the message out there!
What an amazing and memorable brand experience. A great example of re-imagining their brand.
Thanks Tim, great brand spaces can make a huge impression because so few organizations see the potential.
Thanks Julia, We know that if you can engage your customers in the process of introducing your brand and products to them you can make an indelible impression. It doesn’t get much more engaging than this.
Nice one Andrew, For the pinball fans (like yourself obviously) this brand communication gesture works on many levels.
You’re right Rach, definitely a re-imagined space within the trade-show. Nothing makes quite the same brand impression than someone showing-off their product in a relevant yet unique manner.

Investing in both dollars and imagination to build brand presence. Interestingly many brand owners do not have the appetite.
You’re right Reg, so much of the value for the brand from this type of gesture is tough to measure, which leaves busy business people looking elsewhere for business investment. Interestingly the businesses with the strongest brands just have confidence in this kind of communication and don’t lose their appetite because they simply can’t measure the results.
What a brilliant brand experience. This exhibit is sure to engage their consumers more than your generic stand. Pity they didn’t somehow use the pinball for some type of interaction.
I like your thinking Susan, imagine if the pinball was an element that ‘rolled-around’ the trade show attracting attendees to the exhibit. That would have made for an even more memorable brand experience.
