Last week I had the pleasure of attending an opening launch for Hamish Munro’s Binding Faraday exhibition at the Pieces of Eight Gallery. Established in 2005 by jeweller Melanie Katsalidis in North Fitzroy, the Pieces of Eight Gallery is a vibrant studio committed to promoting contemporary jewellery and objects in dynamic new ways. Located in the heart of Melbourne, the gallery also presents an exceptional exhibition program with guest curators, workshops, online blogs, interviews and special events held throughout the year.
What I loved about the night, was that it not only showcased Hamish’s remarkable jewellery and sculpture work, but it gave the audience an opportunity to interact with the pieces, the artist and the space itself. As part of the exhibition, Hamish had transformed the Pieces of Eight gallery facade into a sculptural installation taking his jewellery and art to a much larger scale. The Pieces of Eight Gallery is renowned for its dedication to intelligent and innovative design, creating a unique experience of wonder and surprise and Hamish’s exhibition certainly personified this mission.
It is wonderful to see a brand that is truly and deeply living their essence and values, and engaging with other like minded individuals to take this to another level. The exhibit is open for another couple of weeks and well worth a look.
