Marketing in general seems to have a language all of its own and digital marketing is no exception. Here is a list of 15 acronyms to help you through your next meeting.
API: Application Programming Interface
A set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications
CPM: Cost per 1,000 Impressions
The online advert cost per thousand views
CMS: Content Management System
A system that allows publishing, editing, and modifying of content
CSS: Cascading Style Sheet
A style sheet language used for describing the presentation semantics (the look and formatting) of a document
CTR: Click Through Rate
A way of measuring the success of an online advertising campaign for a particular website
DNS: Domain Name System (Server)
An Internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses
HTML: Hyper-Text Markup Language
A markup language for displaying web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browse
PPC: Pay Per Click
An Internet advertising model used to direct traffic to websites, where advertisers pay the publisher (typically a website owner) when the ad is clicked
RSS: Really Simple Syndication
A family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works
SEO: Search Engine Optimization
A process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s ‘natural,’ or un-paid (‘organic’ or ‘algorithmic”)’ search results.
SEM: Search Engine Marketing
A form of internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs)
SERP: Search Engine Results Page
A listing of web pages returned by a search engine in response to a keyword query
SDK: Software Developer Kit
A set of software development tools that allows for the creation of applications for a certain software package, software framework, hardware platform, computer system, video game console, operating system, or similar platform
URL: Uniform Resource Locator
A specific character string that constitutes a reference to an Internet resource
UX: User Experience
A way a person feels about using a product, system or service
