Truly Deeply and 14 student and grads participated in the Little Fish self promotional workshop last Wednesday evening. After a really exciting session, we had a wonderful response from both staff and students. We take a quick look at where the idea came from and how we like to give back to the emerging design community.
Giving back to our local design community is something that is important to us at Truly Deeply. As an experienced Brand Engagement agency we wanted to share some of our knowledge with emerging Communication Design graduates who are about to enter the workforce and may not feel like they were quite prepared to jump into the big pond. After much discussion the idea of little fish was conceived.
We came up with a concept for a one night only workshop focusing on self promotion and your personal brand. The graduate market is flooded with folio workshops, so we wanted to shift focus and get our Little Fish thinking about promoting themselves and exploring what makes them unique, giving them an edge to future employers.
The net was cast far and wide and we received some great applications from a broad mix of young designers. Over three hours our Little Fish worked on briefs, listened to fascinating insight on personal brands whilst working closely with the entire Truly Deeply team on helping them discover their essence and and developing that into an idea they could use to self promote to future employers. Special shout out to the TD cook team who made us all a Mexican feast of Chicken, Fish & Tofu Fajita’s accompied with with a nice cool beer on a balmy Wednesday night.
Overall the night was a huge success for all involved and the feedback we have received from the students has been wonderful. It was very rewarding for us at Truly Deeply to shift our focus away from the client side for a brief moment and give something back to the young passionate future design community. We hope we inspired them as much as they did us.
