Top 3 social marketing trends for brands

Drive your brand’s social marketing to the next level

As social media matures and the dust begins to settle we’re getting a better sight-line on the role it plays for brands. Regardless of the size of your business and the category you play in, online and social marketing are becoming more and more important to your future. The three strongest trends we’re seeing are:

01. Community Owned

The brands who use social most effectively are those that are most comfortable with handing the reigns over to their community. Whether that’s encouraging and amplifying their content or having them create and generate their own stories on your channels, being community minded for brands means putting that community at the core of their social thinking and marketing.

02. Different platforms for different uses

Interestingly as each social platform has evolved the way in which it is used by its community has also become clearer. Facebook is about reach, with a cost effective ad product. Twitter is react, it’s immediate, topical and responsive, but also of the moment. Snapchat is personality. Instagram is about beauty and inspiration  rich, visual and evocative. YouTube is recording – events, moments, shit that makes you laugh, ideas and aspirations. Pinterest is your hopes.

Brands who understand the way platforms resonate and develop social marketing strategies that are synergistic will see a much higher level of engagement.

03. Stories are everything

As Eric Toda, Airbnb’s Head of Social Marketing said in a recent interview; “Stories are everything”. Big brands like Apple, Nike and Audi with their sophisticated marketing machines as well as small, authentic start-ups with local cred and close connections are utilising social platforms to tell their stories.

Social marketing has evolved from ‘The What?’ to ‘The Why?’ and story telling is the perfect vehicle for illustrating a brand’s ‘Why’.
