Dior appoints Maria Grazia Chiuri as their first ever female creative director.
With an impressive portfolio, Maria was first snatched from label Fendi by Valentino and just recently has made her debut as creative director for Dior – the first ever female to run the fashion house. She will be overseeing women’s couture, ready to wear and accessories.
Maria will be Dior’s seventh couturier and the future looks bright with her first show to be held on September 30 to showcase RTW Spring 2017, followed by couture in January which falls on the 70th anniversary for Dior.
Shortly after the announcement Maria stated “It is a great honour to be joining the house of Dior. I measure the tremendous responsibility of being the first woman in charge of the creation in a house so deeply rooted in the pure expression of femininity. The endless wealth of its heritage continues to be a constant source of inspiration for fashion, and I cannot wait to express my own vision.”
It will be great to see a fresh approach and a females perspective on the new direction for women’s couture.
